It’s that time of the year again, with nominations open for the prestigious 2025 Venue Industry Awards. As the premier Awards program for the venue management industry in the Asia-Pacific region, these Awards shine a spotlight on the outstanding individuals who contribute to the success and innovation of our industry.

Recognising Excellence Across Multiple Categories

Our industry is unique and draws to it some incredible individuals who are passionate about what they do. From memorable moments for their patrons to iconic events that form part of our nation’s culture and history, these are a talented group and we love to celebrate them.

A Glimpse Into the Awards’ Legacy

With a rich history of recognising leaders, game changers, and innovators, the Venue Industry Awards are a testament to the achievements of our industry’s brightest stars. Each award is bestowed based on the nominees’ accomplishments over the past 12 months, reflecting their ongoing commitment to excellence.

We recently caught up with our Young Achiever winner from last year’s awards, Tyrie Wilkinson, Safety and Resilience Lead at Melbourne Cricket Club. Here’s what he had to say about how the award has impacted his career.

1. What have you been up to since winning the Young Achiever of the Year Award in 2024?

“Since winning the award, I’ve stepped into the role of Safety and Resilience Lead at the MCC, where I’ve been focused on enhancing safety strategies, crisis preparedness, and operational resilience. The award has been a fantastic platform that has helped me grow both personally and professionally, allowing me to connect with industry leaders through the VMA and gain new insights. It has also reinforced my ability to influence and support my peers.”

2. What did winning the award mean to you personally and professionally?

“Personally, it was a huge honour and a recognition of my passion for the venue and events industry. Professionally, it validated the work I’ve been doing in safety, risk management, and operational resilience. The award gave me confidence in my abilities and helped me step into leadership roles, where I can drive meaningful change.”

3. What advice would you give to other young professionals aspiring to make a mark in the industry, based on your own journey and achievements so far?

“Take every opportunity to learn and get involved. The venue industry is fast-paced and ever-evolving, so being adaptable and proactive is key. Build strong relationships, seek mentorship, and don’t be afraid to put yourself forward—whether that’s volunteering for projects, presenting ideas, or applying for leadership roles. Passion and commitment will always stand out.”

4. What impact do you hope to have on the venue industry in the next five years, and how do you see your role evolving in that time?

“I want to continue improving safety and resilience programs in venues, ensuring that we’re prepared for any challenge while maintaining a great experience for patrons. In the next five years, I see myself playing a bigger role in shaping industry standards through collaboration, and innovation in crisis management and operational planning.”

5. What would you say to your peers to encourage them to nominate a deserving friend or colleague for an award this year?

“These awards shine a light on the incredible work happening in our industry and help young professionals gain well-deserved recognition. If you know someone who is driving change, showing leadership, or making an impact, nominating them is a great way to celebrate their achievements and support their career growth. I’m incredibly grateful for the recognition I received, and I encourage others to put forward the rising stars in their teams.”

Nominate yourself, a peer, colleague, contractor or supplier.

Nominations close on the 31st of March.
