Quayclean has a strong belief to learn, develop, knowledge and obtain experience, which can be applied to its customer sites and also upskill its workforce to achieve more sustainable and highly efficient outcomes.

Obtaining broad education learnings and passing on these insights is one of the primary reasons why Quayclean sponsors the VMA Mentoring program.

As part of its ongoing business development and knowledge gathering, five senior leaders including CEO Mark Piwkowski and co-founder Loui Petrevski, recently undertook a two-week European Sustainability study tour where they visited several of the world’s biggest sports venues, attended IFAT – the world’s largest renewable, recycling, sustainability and waste management congress in Munich – and the Interclean Congress in Amsterdam.

Venues visited included Allianz Stadium in Munich, Munich Olympic Stadium, Johan Cruyff ArenA in Amsterdam, Roland Garros in Paris, Ascot and Newbury Racecourses, Wimbledon, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Etihad Stadium in England plus Oxford University.

The impacts of climate change and global warming are widely acknowledged throughout Europe, and steps being undertaken by northern hemisphere venues and government to mitigate these affects are further advanced than the current Australian market.

Notably, speakers at the IFAT Congress foreshadowed that rising temperatures could force many sporting complexes to be enclosed for the safety of athletes.

Unquestionably, the Australian market currently lacks a cohesive approach in tackling climate change and more investment and collaboration between governments, the waste industry and communities needs to occur.

Quayclean is of the view that venues in Australia, together with on-site stakeholders, can be an educational trailblazing catalyst for change as millions of Australians attend our venues every year.

Public venues are more than just sites for recreational enjoyment. Because of their sheer size and waste production, they are positioned at the coalface where positive action against climate change must be taken.

Quayclean has been sharing its learnings from the European Sustainability study tour with its customers and welcomes the opportunity to discuss key insights with VMA members.
