Growing Your Skills with the VMA

Aug 28, 2024Blog, From the CEO's Desk, Leadership Institute, Venue Management School

Learning on the job can be tough.

Take it from me – I’ve barely started my new job as VMA CEO and have already had to learn enough about the Venue Management School and Leadership Institute to be able to write this letter to you!

Like so many of you, I know from a long career in the venue and events industries that it is always hard to find the time in our daily lives to learn new skills. There is always something seemingly more important than ourselves to give our energy to.

We all experience this tension between being time-poor while also knowing that our job and career success depends heavily on our professional development.

Your employer is also keenly aware of this tension, wanting more skilled staff but worrying about what else might fall behind if you are briefly out of the office to grow and develop. But the reality is that venues that give their staff professional development opportunities outside the workplace are more likely to develop a team with the ability to adapt to workplace challenges, and more likely to retain those staff long-term.

Learning in environments outside the workplace also gives everyone the chance to connect with and learn from their peers, buiding the networks that lead to innovative industry collaborations and career development.

Enrolment is now open for the 2024 Venue Management School (VMS) and Leadership Institute (LI) held from Sunday, 10 – Friday, 15 November in Kingscliff, NSW! Registrations are filling fast, and if last year is anything to go by, the programs will be at full capacity well ahead of schedule.

The VMS has established itself as the premier educational training program for professionals in the event and venue industry across the Asia and Pacific region. Now in it’s 28th year, this immersive and transformational learning experience combines 35 industry-specific subjects delivered by 23 executive-level industry instructors. Its reputation for delivering cutting-edge insights, fostering networking opportunities, and providing practical knowledge has attracted professionals from all corners of the globe.

The Leadership Institute is geared towards senior venue industry professionals, and who are looking to specifically advance their leadership and senior management capabilities.

You can learn more detail about the VMS and LI here

What’s clear to me as a newcomer to the VMA is the astounding level of personal commitment shown by the group of industry-leading instructors, who freely give of their time and expertise to develop the next generation of venue industry leaders. I’ve both experienced and delivered an enormous number of similar professional development experiences myself over the course of my career, and can say with certainty that it’s rare to come across such passion for giving back to the industry.

This passion can only translate into a truly meaningful learning experience for everyone involved.

With limited availability, places will be in high demand, so don’t miss this rare opportunity to join a vibrant community of venue management professionals seeking to advance their skills and career prospects.

I’m looking forward to seeing you there.
