Upon arrival on Sunday, August 25th, you’ll settle in with an informative session detailing the exciting week ahead. This session covers essential topics and sets the stage for the Independent Discussion Groups (IDGs), which will be a pivotal part of your learning experience throughout the week. The evening concludes with a relaxed welcome drinks event, allowing you to mingle and get acquainted with fellow students and instructors.
The IVSS program is designed with daily focuses on specific topic themes, ensuring a comprehensive exploration of venue safety and security:
Monday Theme and Sessions: Safety Management and Risk
Tuesday Theme and Sessions: Security
Wednesday Theme and Sessions: Emergency and Crowd Management
Thursday Theme and Sessions: Safety and Security Leadership in the Workplace, group project presentations and exams, followed by a celebratory dinner to acknowledge your achievements over the past week.
Let’s take a closer look at what Monday entails, with a focus on safety management and risk:
The day begins promptly at 8:00 AM with engaging classroom sessions. You’ll delve into critical subjects such as ‘Introduction to Risk Assessment’, ‘Health & Safety Law: Duties & Obligations’, and ‘ISO45001: Safety Management Systems’. These sessions are designed to provide you with foundational knowledge essential for venue safety.
In the afternoon, we move beyond the classroom to practical onsite sessions conducted at CommBank Stadium covering ‘Building Code Compliance & Site Security’. This hands-on experience allows you to apply theoretical concepts in a real-world setting, enhancing your understanding of safety protocols.
Later in the day, you’ll participate in IDG sessions. Here, you’ll collaborate in groups to work on the safety and risk sections of a case study relevant to the day’s learnings. This interactive session encourages teamwork and practical application of classroom knowledge.
To foster a vibrant learning community, Monday evening includes another venue tour followed by a networking dinner. This provides you with an opportunity to connect with peers and instructors in a relaxed setting, exchanging insights and experiences.
