Katherine Norman AVM
Katherine Norman is the Senior Account Manager within Presenter Services at Arts Centre Melbourne, Victoria Australia. Having attended VMS Australia (2010 and 2011), she was the first student to receive both the Year 1 USI Bursary and the Year 2 AEG Ogden Scholarship. In 2013 she attended the IAVM Graduate Institute at Oglebay. In 2014 she commenced as an instructor at VMS Australia, as well as VMS Committee Member.
Her career in the Venue Industry started in Front of House back in 2000. She specialised in customer service both at the Arts Centre Melbourne and as Usher Manager at Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. In London, alongside ushering, Katherine worked for a Human Resource Consultant, as well as for a Homeless Charity that specialised in creating Forum theatre, to empower the disadvantaged.
In 2007 she was appointed as Operations Manager at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl – one of Melbourne’s most iconic outdoor performance venues. From 2009 – June 2015, she was an Event Account Manager at Arts Centre Melbourne, responsible for the relationship management, venue scheduling, contracting, coordination, and whole event overview of events across Arts Centre Melbourne – in most cases more than 30 performances a week. This iconic precinct manages seven performance venues (as well as several exhibition and functions spaces), and is the Melbourne home of Opera Australia, The Australian Ballet, Melbourne Theatre Company, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra – among many, many others.
As of June 2015, Katherine leads the Presenter Services Account Management Team at Arts Centre Melbourne, who deliver all Performing Arts Events across the precinct ~ 4000 events per year. The department is responsible for overseeing all aspects of event delivery: booking and scheduling, contracting, ticketing and marketing, event preparation, briefing the event delivery teams and post event settlement and review.
Katherine’s involvement with the VMA commenced in 2010 and has been quite active since then. VMA highlights include the aforementioned scholarships, attendance at the 2013 Graduate Institute in Oglebay, America, invitation to instruct at the school, committee member and successfully attaining the “Accredited Venue Manager” (AVM) in May 2014. In May 2015, she co-hosted the ‘Performing Arts Centres’ Town Hall at the VMA Congress 2015.
Alongside Venue Management, Katherine is a Biochemistry Graduate from the University of Melbourne. She is the Secretary of the Board of Consort of Melbourne as well as the Principal Soprano. She also performs regularly with many other chamber/early music groups in Melbourne and around the world and is recorded frequently by ABC Classic FM.
