Helen Fairclough returned to her hometown Melbourne, Australia from California, USA to join the award-winning Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) four years ago as their Director of People, Culture and Improvement.
Her role at MCEC involves building capability through a continued focus on the development of people; embedding organisational values in all they do; championing diversity and inclusion. Along with acquiring, developing and supporting the business to retain talent, lead the business to better manage change, reward and recognise employees and provide sound industrial and employee relations advice. In addition, she is passionate about driving business improvement and innovation across the organisation through robust idea generation, process improvement, project delivery frameworks and the evolution of MCEC’s innovation program.
Prior to MCEC, Helen was the Manager, Human Resources Strategy and Talent Management for the Downstream and Chemicals division of Chevron Corporation in San Ramon, California.
With 30 years’ experience as a HR professional she has worked internationally and in environments ranging from start-up to Fortune 3, and in industries as diverse as retail, advertising, government/public sector, hospitality, tourism & events, insurance, law, consulting, manufacturing and energy.
Helen has Board level experience as a Non-Executive Director of the Victorian Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Executive Council Member of the Victorian Chamber of Commerce & Industry, member of the Australian American Chamber Commerce Board (San Francisco, USA), Member of the Advisory Board Melbourne Chamber of Commerce, Victoria, Australia.
Her interests include live music, travelling, fashion (especially shoes) and sport. Helen also pursued a Masters of Entrepreneurship and Innovation from Swinburne University of Technology.
