Since 2016 the Venue Management Association and Griffith University have enjoyed a formal partnership to promote knowledge sharing and research, industry and workforce development and educational pathways for higher learning.

Under this unique partnership the industry is able to benefit across three main areas:

Work Integrated Learning Program

The Work Integrated Learning – Internship Program strives to deliver meaningful and beneficial outcomes for both students and businesses and has a dedicated team who will work with you to ensure your business needs are met through the hard work of our enthusiastic and talented students.

By registering with the program, you will have a great opportunity to engage with the final year undergraduate and postgraduate students studying in the following areas:

  • International Tourism, Hotel and Hospitality Management
  • Event Management
  • Sport Management
  • Real Estate and Property Management

For businesses with current projects or planned future projects, the Internship Program provides you with access to a high calibre student to work exclusively on your project for between 75 and 200 hours for the period of 12 weeks in each trimester. It can be paid or unpaid and allows students to gain hands-on industry experience and develop professional skills.

Students are available to participate in Internships across the following periods:

  • Trimester 1 – Early March to late May
  • Trimester 2 – Early July to late September
  • Trimester 3 – Early November to late January

The Griffith University Program Team will provide you with assistance from initial stages of engagement right through the program completion and can help find the right student fit for your business needs.

Education – Credit for Prior Learning

Through our partnership with Griffith University, VMA members who complete the Diploma of Venue Management 10569NAT with the VMA, will have the opportunity to receive credit towards two degrees undertaken at Griffith University:

  1. Bachelor of Business (Nathan Campus, Gold Coast Campus)
  2. Bachelor of International Tourism and Hotel Management (Nathan Campus, Gold Coast Campus)

VMA Diploma Graduates will be awarded 80 points of credit, which is equivalent to one year of the above listed degrees.

Discussion is underway to provide an online study option for these degrees, allowing VMA members from around Australia to take advantage of this opportunity.

We expect the education opportunities to continue to expand, as we work with Griffith University developing this area of our partnership.

Research Projects

We’re excited to explore the opportunity with Griffith University to design valuable research projects that provide the venue industry with comprehensive research, informative reports and data that inspire growth and expansion.

This could include benchmarking in key areas across the venue industry. For example, executive salaries, financial performance, client satisfaction, etc. The VMA is also looking at research that value adds to the operation of the venue management industry.
